What are common traps for aspiring writers?
Those endless pop-ups on my iPhone, email, and PC from various editing services, which begin with their regular prices, then are whittled down to something affordable.
What is the first book that made you cry?
No book ever made me cry, but the Diary of Ann Frank haunted me for days after reading it.
Does writing energize or exhaust you?
Writing energizes me when I'm on a roll with a novel, and exhausts me when I'm trying to come up with that perfect sentence during an edit.
Does a big ego help or hurt writers?
Without ego there is no impetus to showcase your writing skills. It's YOU on that page. Ego hurts only when you cannot handle criticism.
Do you think someone could be a writer if they don’t feel emotions strongly?
Since writing comes from the heart (and gut), emotions will always be the launching pad to communicating your deepest thoughts and fears.
What’s your favorite under-appreciated author?
The Breaks by Richard Price, who, in my opinion, is the Master of Description.
Did you ever consider writing under a pseudonym?
Only if I take the plunge into hard-core erotica, which I won't.
